Reposting this because autumn shedding season has entered the chat again 🍂

You may notice more hair in your brush or shower during the autumn months. Seasonal shedding can happen, but that doesn’t mean every increase in hair fall should automatically be blamed on the weather.

Here in the UK, our vitamin D levels can also begin to fall as sunlight becomes weaker. Low vitamin D may be associated with some types of hair loss—but taking supplements blindly isn’t the answer either.

If your shedding feels excessive, continues for several months or comes with visible thinning, it’s worth investigating properly. Seasonal shedding is possible; assumptions aren’t a diagnosis.

Pumpkin seed oil is having a moment in the hair-loss world.

The claim?

That it can block DHT, reduce hair loss and encourage hair growth.

And unlike some viral ingredients, there actually is some interesting evidence behind it.

One placebo-controlled study looked at 76 men with androgenetic alopecia taking 400mg of oral pumpkin seed oil daily. After 24 weeks, mean hair count increased by around 40%, compared with around 10% in the placebo group.

There’s also a small study in women suggesting topical pumpkin seed oil may help with female pattern hair loss.

BUT…

That does not mean rubbing pumpkin seed oil onto your scalp is a clinically proven DHT-blocking treatment.

That jump from “there’s some promising research” to “this blocks DHT and regrows your hair” is exactly where the marketing gets a little enthusiastic.

My verdict?

Interesting evidence. Worth watching. But not something I’d put in the same evidence category as established treatments like minoxidil.

Hair growth serums are everywhere right now.

Redensyl. Peptides. Rosemary. Caffeine. Fifteen other ingredients with names that sound like they were developed by NASA.

And some products can absolutely support the scalp and hair.

But here’s the bit nobody selling you the bottle wants to lead with:

Hair shedding can improve on its own.

If you’ve had telogen effluvium following illness, stress, hormonal changes, weight loss, nutritional deficiency or another trigger, the shedding may naturally begin to settle months later.

So when somebody starts a serum during that period and then notices less hair falling out?

The serum automatically gets the credit.

That doesn’t necessarily mean it caused the improvement.

This is exactly why I’m far more interested in why you started shedding in the first place than which trending serum TikTok has decided we all need this week.

Products can help.

But investigation beats guesswork every single time.

I’d buy products that actually suit my hair and scalp.

Weird, I know.

Because “viral” is not a clinical indication, pretty packaging is not evidence, and your algorithm does not have a trichology qualification.

Are “skinny jabs” making everyone bald? 👀

Hair shedding while taking weight-loss injections such as Mounjaro or Wegovy is something I’m hearing about more and more.

But here’s where it gets interesting…

We can’t simply say the injection is damaging the hair follicle.

Significant or rapid weight loss itself can trigger telogen effluvium, a temporary type of excessive shedding. Add in a big reduction in appetite, changes in nutritional intake and the physiological stress of losing a substantial amount of weight, and suddenly there’s a lot more going on than “Mounjaro made my hair fall out.”

And because hair is spectacularly unhelpful, the shedding often appears months after the original trigger.

That also doesn’t mean every person experiencing hair loss on a weight-loss injection has telogen effluvium. Female pattern hair loss, low iron, thyroid problems and other causes can exist alongside it or become more noticeable during weight loss.

So no, the “skinny jabs” aren’t simply making everyone bald.

But if your hair has started shedding since losing weight, don’t just panic, stop your prescribed medication or buy a cupboard full of supplements. Find out what’s actually happening first.

The injection is part of the history.
It isn’t automatically the diagnosis.
